FLUFFHEAD
Monday, October 9th, 2006
Ok, so maybe it happened a week ago, but we’re all still reeling from the What The Fluff? Festival at Union Square in Somerville, MA. Along with a fluff cooking contest, edible and wearable fluff merch, a fluff art installation at SCAT, and a genuine, real-live wedding in progress at the Independent – our longtime friends, Josh Lederman and his band Los Diablos were the headliners. Phil and I were there for the whole show and Phil made an intentionally cheap-looking music video. Suzanna showed up about an hour into the festival and bopped around with us for the rest of the night – she almost bought a piece of art at the SCAT exhibit, but decided that the final paragraph of aforementioned artist’s tribute to fluff was too masturbatory. I was glad to have stopped by SCAT, which comfortingly, looked like every other cable access station in Mass. I suggested to Phil that he change the description for his crew call for his TV pilot – I had better start learning my rap……
We partied on into the night at Phil’s sister Ella’s house – she’s working on a documentary about New Orleans. Maribeth Swan arrived and we talked at length about her ongoing search for a lead guitar player. We all ate a lot of burnt nuts, pulled pork and beans which made for an interesting gastricular effect on our wanderings down in Union Square later that evening.
We traveled between Sally O’Brien’s and the ‘Nog, catching Take You Higher, a Sly and The Family Stone tribute band, and across the way, a band that Lederman identified as: “The best/worst band of all time. You have got to see it to believe it.” I came to the aid in searching for a Fluffer’s green vest (which I had in fact, hidden;-) and at the ‘Nog ran into Spencer and Mark from the Razzi. The band was in fact, terrible/awesome – a bunch of old fogeys belting out the hits, “Stand By Me” and other goodies, and they were really, really feelin’ it. I’d go see’em again, but it probably wouldn’t be as good and I didn’t catch their names either. Later on this weekend I would regret not taking more movie of Los Diablos at the Fluff Festival, but Phil was on the case, and I figured, once I had the pic of me and Fluffboy….
